The International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) announcement

The International Association for Statistical Education (IASE) is pleased to announce the establishment of an IASE awards program. Three awards - Lifetime Achievement, Advocacy in Statistics Education, and Early Career - will be presented at ICOTS 12 in 2026. Nominations for the awards are open until January 16, 2026.
The nomination packet for each award consists of the following:
1 - Contact information for the person being nominated and the person making the nomination as requested in the nomination form,
2 -A Curriculum Vitae for the nominee,
3-Two letters of reference that focus primarily on the contributions of the individual, their importance, and impact,
Description of importance and impact of the contributions (max 1000 words) explaining the contributions of the nominee to the field.
Email the completed form and related materials to Gail Burrill, Chair IASE Awards Committee at burrill
msu.edu by no later than January 16, 2026.
Please note that a person cannot be nominated for more than one award by the same nominator.

Renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Iranian Statistical Society and Yerevan State University

In September 2025, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Yerevan State University (YSU) and the Iranian Statistical Society (ISS) was renewed for an additional five-year period with the aim of advancing mutual academic and scientific goals.
To facilitate the implementation of the objectives outlined in this MoU, two working groups have been appointed: one by the Iranian Statistical Society, chaired by Dr. Hossein Bevrani, and the another one by Yerevan State University (YSU), chaired by Dr. Viktor Karo Ohanyan.
The activities and outcomes of these working groups will be communicated to the public through future announcements.

Launch of a Web Application for Graphical and Exploratory Data Analysis

The educational web application for graphical and exploratory data analysis has been launched by the Statistical Literacy section of the Iranian Statistical Society. Developed by Dr. Seyed Mahdi Salehi, Associate Professor of Statistics at University of Neyshabur, the application aims to teach fundamental concepts of statistics and data analysis.
This interactive platform allows users to upload data files in CSV and TXT formats, create various interactive charts, perform exploratory analyses, and work with real national datasets. It also offers statistical index calculations and lets users observe the effects of variable changes.
The application provides an engaging and practical environment for learning statistics, making it a valuable educational tool for students, teachers, and researchers.

Persian Gulf University Department of Statistics: 15th Anniversary
Undergraduate student admissions in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for Statistics as the major started in 2000. In 2009, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics was split, and the Department of Statistics was established. The joining of new members led to admitting graduate students for the MSc. program in mathematical and socio-economics statistics. Launching the Ph.D. program in Statistics in 2012 and the MSc. of Data Science in 2023 in the Statistics department provided more workspace for research. The Department of Statistics, the Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering departments, got together, and the new Faculty of Intelligent Systems Engineering and Data Science was established in 2021. Since 2022, the Department of Statistics has activated two research and technology centers, the Machine Learning and Data Science Laboratory and the Statistical Learning Laboratory. Currently, the Statistics Department, with 8 full-time assistant and associate professors, provides educational and research services to 200 undergraduate students, 13 master's students in Mathematical Statistics and Data Science, and 11 Ph.D. students.
The Statistics Department is honored to announce that the students in our program have achieved remarkable success in Statistics Olympiads and competitions, such as first place in the regional Olympiad and high rank in the national master's entrance exam.
